Remove stains on silk clothes
Stains are inevitable on clothes, but some of them are more difficult to remove than others, especially if they occur on particularly delicate fabrics such as silk. In these cases, it is necessary to use products with high cleaning power, but which are also gentle on the garment to prevent it from spoiling.
How to remove stains on silk
First of all, before removing a stain from any silk garment, you should check its label, since it will indicate its particularities. Here are some products that can help you remove stains from silk clothes quickly and effectively.
With water and soap
Due to the texture and composition of the fabric, you will not be able to use a normal soap. The best option if you want to remove stains and protect the garment at the same time, is to use a specific detergent for silk. Before applying the product on it, you should check in an inconspicuous part that it does not fade, once this is done, you can start removing the stain.
To do this, you need to add a tablespoon of special liquid detergent for silk to a basin with warm water and submerge the garment in the mixture for 5 minutes. After this time, rub the stain gently with a sponge until you get the stain to disappear. To remove soap residue, rinse the fabric with cold water.
After rinsing, wrap it in a towel applying a little pressure to remove excess moisture without damaging it. After that, hang the garment in a cool place so that it ends up drying on its own.
With vinegar
In the case of resistant stains, the use of vinegar can be a solution for silk garments. Dilute a little vinegar with cold water in a container. Now, using a sponge, apply the mixture by gently rubbing it over the stain.
Then, put the garment in a basin with lukewarm water and silk soap for about 5 minutes, rub gently and rinse with cold water.
In the event that the stain has not completely disappeared, add a cup of vinegar to a basin of cold water and place the garment in it. Stir by hand for a couple of minutes, rinse and dry. Using vinegar will also help you achieve greater softness and shine for clothes.
Remove difficult stains
Some stains can cause real fear when they land on a silk garment. In these cases, it will be necessary to use tricks that manage to eliminate all those dirt particles that have been impregnated in the fabric to put an end to them.
Grease, food or makeup stains are the most difficult to remove on silk garments, but this does not mean that you cannot do it if you arm yourself with a little patience. First, to achieve the best results, you need to act as quickly as possible to prevent the stain from getting too deep into the fabric.
Makeup stains
In the case of recent makeup stains, you will only need to use a piece of cotton and warm water.
Moisten the cotton in water and rub directly on the stain, you will see how it disappears before your eyes.
In the event that the stain is not recent, and has been produced by makeup, you can remove it using hydrogen peroxide. As in the previous case, soak a little cotton with it and gently apply it to the stain. If this is from lipstick and it is not recent, nothing better than using alcohol to make it disappear.
The use of alcohol will also be very effective when the stains that occur on your silk clothes are fruit or ballpoint ink. You must be very careful when you apply it, you must do it with small touches, since otherwise the stain could expand.
Food scraps and grease
Grease or food stains are very difficult to remove from silk fabrics. Despite this, you should not lose heart, since there are very effective tricks that can help you get rid of them completely using cornstarch.
Locate the stain and add cornstarch to it so that you can create a thick layer and leave it to work overnight. Thanks to the power of this type of product, you will get it to absorb all the grease from the stain.
After several hours, remove the starch with a light brush and check if the stain has disappeared. In the event that it still exists, rub with a little detergent for silk, rinse with plenty of cold water and let the garment dry.
